Over the years, these endowments have helped APGO further faculty development, educational research activities, innovative new curricula and an outstanding collection of women's health care publications.

APGO Medical Education Endowment Fund Grant Program
Request for Proposals 2011 - Strict Proposal Deadline May 2, 2011 at 5pm
PROJECT PURPOSE:
The APGO Medical Education Endowment Fund Grant Program was established in 2009 as a new initiative of the association. This program will provide financial support to stimulate research and innovations in health science education. Three grants (up to $15,000 per project) will be made to APGO members who submit a written proposal and budget for a project that strives to improve education by innovative approaches. Projects demonstrating a direct, measurable, positive impact on medical student education will be most competitive for the award.
For 2011, the projects must focus on any one of the following areas:
* Patient Safety/Quality Improvement
* Leadership and Advocacy
* Underserved or Global Health

APGO Resident Scholars Awards
This award program covers up to $1,000 in travel and hotel expenses, and waives the registration fee, for six third- or fourth-year residents to attend the CREOG & APGO Annual Meeting, to be exposed to the activities and benefits of APGO at an early stage in their careers.
APGO Martin L. Stone, MD Fund for the Advancement of Medical Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology
The award provides financial support for projects that expand the educational capabilities and/or measurably enhances the educational programs initiated by graduates of the APGO Academic Scholars and Leaders Program.
The 2010 Martin L. Stone, MD Award recipient is Jody Steinauer, MD, from the University of California at San Francisco for her research project, “Opting Out of Abortion Training: A Qualitative Study of Ob-Gyn Resident and Faculty Experiences.” Doctor Steinauer is a graduate of the 2008-2009 APGO Academic Scholars and Leaders Program. APGO Excellence in Teaching Award
The APGO Excellence in Teaching Award was established in 1992 to recognize outstanding teachers in ob-gyn medical education. Over 1,500 physician educators have received this prestigious award since its inception. Click here to view the recipients of the 2010 Excellence in Teaching Awards.
Past recipients (from 2002-2008) of the APGO Excellence in Teaching Award may order ONE of the new Excellence in Teaching lapel pins at a cost of $5 each. Shipping and handling is included. Please complete the order form and fax or mail it to APGO.
Recipients names are announced annually in a Fall edition of the APGO e-Bulletin.
APGO Electronic Educational Resource Award (e-ERA)
From 2002 to 2009, APGO has used the Website of Excellence award to encourage the use of this platform to enhance medical student education in obstetrics & gynecology. In the last 7 years, we have witnessed a tremendous growth in website utilization such that clerkship websites are now commonplace.
APGO wants to challenge educators in a new way with the establishment of the APGO Electronic Educational Resource Award (e-ERA) which will replace the Website of Excellence Award.
APGO e-ERA will recognize excellence in development of electronic learning resources.To be eligible, the learning resource must be:
* publically available and internet-based
* educational content must be primarily directed toward medical student learning
* in the area of obstetrics and gynecology, or in the areas of women’s health
* obstetrics and gynecology should be featured prominently in the resource
Resources primarily targeted at resident learners are not eligible for this award.
Pamela A. Geller, PhD, Associate Professor of Psychology and Public Health at Drexel University, is the 2010 APGO e-ERA winner. Her award-winning Web resource can be viewed at this link.
Winners receive an APGO e-ERA award logo to display on the title page of the electronic learning resource.
APGO Academic Scholars and Leaders Program
This program is a comprehensive educational curriculum designed to help ob-gyn professors teach women's health more effectively. The program’s purpose is to provide interested faculty, who have major teaching responsibilities, with a vigorous curriculum addressing aspects of the educational process. Through a combination of didactic sessions, independent study, and projects supervised by course faculty and local mentors, graduates will be taught instructional theory, research design, curriculum design, multiple instructional formats and other tools necessary to be leaders in ob-gyn education.

APGO Surgical Scholars Program
This program's purpose is to refine the teaching skills of ob-gyn faculty who teach and evaluate learners in hysteroscopic surgery. This innovative two and one-half-day course presents state-of-the-art teaching strategies and evaluative tools, and will provide the scholar with a comprehensive curriculum that can be implemeted at their home institution.

2011 Bayer Droegemueller Award in Clinical Research
The Bayer Droegemueller Award in Clinical Research is intended to support studies that are specifically focused on clinical research in obstetrics and gynecology. Its goal is to promote excellent clinical research by young invesigators in the areas of diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. This award is not intended for support of basic science research or animal studies. One Droegemueller award in the amount of $110,000 is made annually.
The Bayer Award in Basic Science Research provides the opportunity for clinician-investigators who wish to initiate new studies or who are currently conducting promising basic research in the area of reproductive medicine to continue work on their project for two additional years. One Basic Science award in the amount of $110,000 is made annually.
