APGO Faculty Development Seminar

The 2012 APGO Faculty Development Seminar, "Focusing on Our Learners' Success: Collaboration, Character, Competence," will be held January 7-10, 2012, at the Ritz-Carlton Palm Beach Hotel in Manapalan, Florida.

The 2012 meeting will encompass the following subthemes:

 1. Collaboration
 
  • Forming and managing effective teams
  • Learning from mentors, colleagues and students
  • Developing new tools and techniques for teaching
2. Character
 
  • Developing learners’ professional identity
  • Capitalizing on your unique communication and teaching styles
  • Establishing professional boundaries in the age of social media
  • Utilizing innovative communication and teaching modalities: podcasts, web-based tools, Smartphones, tablet computers and more 
3. Competence
  • Assessing curricular innovations: longitudinal curricula, vertical integration, simulation, distance learning
  • Providing effective feedback
  • Focusing your teaching on learning outcomes and competencies
  • Documenting best practices for student experiences; demonstration of LCME compliance
  • Inspiring and rewarding dedicated teachers

CLERKSHIP DIRECTORS’ SCHOOL: PARTS 101 AND 201
Saturday, January 7, 2012 |  6:30 am - 2:00 pm (prior to the start of the seminar)
 
The APGO Clerkship Directors’ School Parts 101 and 201 will be offered at the 2012 Faculty Development Seminar. The course consists of basic and intermediate-level information specifically designed for developing an ob-gyn clerkship. Part 301 of the School, which is more advanced in nature, will be offered at the 2012 CREOG & APGO Annual Meeting in March. Participants who complete all three parts of the Clerkship Directors’ School within a three-year period will receive a certificate of completion.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO). The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
