The Surgical Education Scholars Program is an 18-month journey in teaching ob-gyn faculty how to develop and implement surgical education curricula at their home institutions. Various surgical procedures and concepts will be used as vehicles for teaching scholars how to transfer skills and knowledge to their students. Ideal scholars for this course will already be proficient in ob-gyn surgical procedures and will be interested in transitioning into formal leadership roles as ob-gyn surgical faculty who are experts at surgical teaching, supportive of other faculty in providing excellent surgical teaching and ready to conduct research in surgical education.

The APGO SES Program was an excellent experience. The faculty are outstanding – engaged, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Marianne Poe, APGO Deputy Director, Development, is the glue that keeps it all together. The educational meetings were informative and interactive with time to get to know the faculty and fellow scholars. The final project (an RCT for me) gave me my first exposure to clinical research with a poster presentation and Green Journal abstract publication as well. After 20+ years in private practice, I pursued my dream of teaching in an ob-gyn residency and the SES program gave me the skills and confidence to be an effective surgical educator. The relationships formed with the faculty and fellow scholars will be invaluable to me and my career.
