2018 FACULTY DEVELOPMENT SEMINAR CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
APGO is now accepting submissions for workshop and round table abstracts for the 2018 APGO Martin L. Stone, MD, Faculty Development Seminar, January 6-9, 2018, at Eau Palm Beach Resort and Spa in Manalapan, Florida.

Deadline: May 15, 2017

This year’s program “Medical Education Makeover: Cleanse, Repair and Enrich!” will encompass the following subthemes:

  • Enrich the Environment
  • Cleanse the Curriculum
  • Fortify the Frontline

GRANT FOR INTERNATIONAL EDUCATORS
Submit a nomination for the APGO Grant for International Educators to attend the 2018 APGO Martin L. Stone, MD, Faculty Development Seminar.

Deadline: June 13, 2017

As part of APGO’s commitment to actively engage international ob-gyn educators, this grant was developed to enable international educators who have active affiliations with APGO member departments or institutions to participate in the APGO Martin L. Stone, MD, Faculty Development Seminar.

OPENINGS ON APGO’S UNDERGRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION COMMITTEE
Nominations are now open for three positions on the Undergraduate Medical Education Committee (UMEC). The committee addresses issues of medical student education and faculty development in a changing health care environment, producing teaching tools, organizing faculty development seminars and promoting innovative teaching methods for continued excellence in undergraduate medical education. 

Deadline: June 16, 2017

APPLY TO APGO’S ACADEMIC SCHOLARS AND LEADERS PROGRAM
Applications are now being accepted for the 2018-2019 Academic Scholars and Leaders (ASL) Program. The program helps to improve education in the field of women’s health by providing motivated physician faculty with the knowledge and skills to enhance their educational leadership, scholarship and career development. Graduates are expected to fulfill major educational responsibilities and positions within their department, their academic institutions, APGO and other educational organizations.

More than 400 APGO members have completed this program. Apply now to become a part of the ASL Community!

UMEC SPOTLIGHT ON FACULTY DEVELOPMENT

As a way of engaging members and creating informative content for APGO’s newly redesigned website, we invited presenters to share a brief overview of their session and personal experiences from the 2017 APGO Martin L. Stone, MD, Faculty Development Seminar. Over the next several months, intellectual and educational content will be shared through the APGO e-Bulletin by way of a featured article in APGO’s Apple Tree Blog. Topics will include medical student burnout prevention, providing faculty development to busy clinicians, creating a curriculum for team-based learning, teaching cultural sensitivity and more. All blog articles will be archived for future reference. This month’s interview is with Dayna Burrell, MD, about her 2017 FDS presentation Escaping the PowerPoint Quicksand: Engaging Your Faculty in Interactive Teaching Modalities.

To access your member benefits, click Log in/My APGO on the home page and enter your email address as your Username, then click Forgot Password. (Please note: Your old password will not work in APGO’s new system.) You will receive a link via email to set up your new password. Once you create a new password, you will be taken to your APGO member portal page, where you can update your contact information, register for an event, purchase items from the store and more.  APGO’s membership year runs from July 1 to June 30 and you will renew your membership directly from your member portal page beginning in June. You can toggle between your member portal page and the APGO website by clicking the My APGO link on the website, or the apgo.org link on your portal page.

OUPDATE YOUR RESIDENCY DIRECTORY LISTING
Have you updated your listing in APGO’s online Residency Directory recently? A recent poll of medical students revealed that this is the tool most used by students when deciding on a program. Take a look at your listing on the APGO web site by clicking on Student Resources, APGO Residency Directory. You can search by state location and/or various filters. At the top of your listing you will see the date that your information was last updated. It’s imperative to keep the listing accurate to attract the most students. Have your Residency Director or Coordinator contact APGO Director of Member services Bonnie Fetsko to learn how to update the listing.
