As a way of engaging members and creating informative content for APGO’s newly redesigned website, we invited presenters to share a brief overview of their session and personal experiences from the 2017 APGO Martin L. Stone, MD, Faculty Development Seminar. Over the next several months, intellectual and educational content will be shared through the APGO e-Bulletin by way of a featured article in APGO’s Apple Tree Blog. Topics will include medical student burnout prevention, providing faculty development to busy clinicians, creating a curriculum for team-based learning, teaching cultural sensitivity and more. All blog articles will be archived for future reference. This month’s interview is with Celeste Royce, MD, on curricular development.

IN MEMORIAM: KENNETH R. KELLNER, MD, PHD, 1946-2017
By John Davis, MD

Kenneth R. Kellner, MD, PhD, a longstanding member of APGO, passed away on January 14, 2017, after a battle with cancer. Doctor Kellner was a Professor and member of the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. He was a dedicated medical educator, and served as director of the Third-Year Clinical Clerkship in Obstetrics and Gynecology for 25 years. Also during his directorship, the UF clerkship was recognized by the graduating medical school class nine times with the Golden Apple Award as the best clinical clerkship, an honor attained more often than any other clerkship at UF College of Medicine. In addition, he was recognized by the UF College of Medicine as an exemplary teacher every year, and twice by his Obstetrics and Gynecology department with the J. Lee Dockery Teaching Award and APGO Excellence in Teaching Award.

Doctor Kellner served on numerous educational committees, and was instrumental in the development of many innovative educational techniques. Moreover, in 2012, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the University of Florida College of Medicine Society of Teaching Scholars, only the eighth faculty member so honored.

A dedicated family man, Doctor Kellner and his wife, Irene, had two sons and five grandchildren. In his leisure time, he enjoyed Gator sports, adventure travel, photography and tinkering. He lived by the belief that the best things in life aren’t things. Doctor Kellner will be greatly missed and will be forever in our hearts.

At the top of your listing you will see the date that your information was last updated. It’s imperative to keep the listing accurate to attract the most students.
