Awards Available and Requirements

Awards Available
In 2020, a maximum of $30,000 has been allocated to fund up to two grants.

Project Category
Projects must focus on the following area in ob-gyn education:
Diversity and Inclusion in Ob-Gyn Education

Project Requirements and Deliverables
Projects demonstrating a direct, measurable, positive impact on women’s health care education, particularly medical student education, will be most competitive for awards.

Project deliverables must be:

  • sustainable within the initial grant budget for a minimum of two years.
  • provided to APGO on a software program or platform or in an electronic format that can be accessed by APGO administration and all APGO members free of charge.
  • submitted in electronic format to APGO along with a detailed explanation of how the final product can be used by members and/or member institutions.

If the award results in durable educational materials, the materials must be made available to APGO administration for distribution to its members and institutions at its discretion.

Publication and Scholarship
Any publications or products resulting from projects funded by the APGO Medical Education Endowment Fund are considered works-made-for-hire, all legal rights to which, including without limitation copyright, are owned by the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO). This allows APGO to freely distribute all such final products to its entire membership to further education in obstetrics and gynecology.

  • Acknowledgment of the APGO Medical Education Endowment Fund must be made on all publications or products resulting from the project in the following format: “Copyright © 202X Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Inc. All rights reserved. Support for this project was made possible by the APGO Medical Education Endowment Fund.”

Scholarship as the result of this project will be useful in promoting the professional development of awardees. Scholarship is a public act and there are many existing and emerging journals focused on medical education to which faculty can submit their work for publication. These include but are not limited to the Educational Researcher (ER), American Educational Research Journal (AERJ), Educational Review, the Journal of Research on Technology Education (JRTE), Learning & Leading with Technology, Academic Medicine, Journal of Dental Education, and Medical Teacher. Electronic publication opportunities include MedEdPORTAL.

Written Reports
Written progress and final reports must be submitted electronically using the APGO Medical Education Endowment Fund Grant Program Report Template found in the Form Library on the APGO website.

Due dates are:
February 1, 2021          Six-month progress report along with a sample of the deliverable
August 2, 2021             Final report

By August 2021, the recipient must also submit an abstract for the 2022 CREOG & APGO Annual Meeting, through the normal abstract submission process, and be prepared to present the project outcome at the 2022 CREOG & APGO Annual Meeting. Data collection may continue after abstract is submitted, if necessary, and final reports may be amended prior to any presentation at the Annual Meeting.

APGO reserves the right to cancel the award and expect a return of the grant funds if the project is not completed within 18 months of the award notification date.

Final Report and Deliverable Review
Email final report with all supporting documents to Marianne Poe, Deputy Director, Development, mkpoe@apgo.org. If files are large, contact the APGO office to arrange another method for sharing your files at (410) 451-9560.

Final reports and deliverable(s) will be reviewed by the APGO Awards Selection Committee and other APGO leaders to confirm that materials are complete and viable for APGO member use. The primary contact listed on the proposal will be notified when materials are under review.

Once approved, allow 3-4 weeks for uploading. When the new webpage is completed and tested, APGO will send an email to the membership announcing the availability of the new resource.

Project Presentation
Grant team is required to submit an abstract for the CREOG & APGO Annual Meeting through the normal abstract process in August of the year in which the final report is submitted. The presentation should be made at the CREOG & APGO Annual Meeting the following spring. Appropriate figures and tables may be appended for the final abstract presentation.
