APGO and CREOG Share Residency Application Response to COVID-19

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, APGO and CREOG leadership met and have developed, along with the RRR Grant Team, the APGO and CREOG Residency Application Response to COVID-19. The guidance provides recommendations to residency programs and clerkship directors on the 2021 residency application process under the current circumstances.

Two-Week Ob-Gyn Clerkship Remote Learning Plan Available

Institutions around the country have moved to distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, and APGO has many resources that may be particularly helpful in this situation. The Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont has provided this sample Two-Week Ob-Gyn Clerkship Remote Learning Plan, which aligns APGO resources with the APGO Medical Student Educational Objectives such as the APGO Basic Science videos, uWISE quizzes and more. APGO has created webpages that follow this plan for direct access by students.

Have You Joined APGO’s Listserv for Clerkship Directors?

APGO recently launched its new Clerkship Directors Listserv. There are currently 146 members, who have utilized the Listserv to discuss remote learning resources during the pandemic, shelf exams and more.

Participation is open to APGO members who fulfill some or all of the duties of a Clerkship Director at their institution.

Deadline Extended: ASL and SES Application

Due to the extenuating circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, the deadline has been extended to May 4, 2020.

There’s still time to apply to APGO’s Scholars Programs!

The Academic Scholars and Leaders (ASL) program is designed to equip faculty with the knowledge and skills needed to be effective educators and leaders. The program also trains participants to take a scholarly approach to education. The goal of the Surgical Education Scholars (SES) program is to provide a mechanism, on a national level, that develops confident, professional ob-gyn surgical educators who are able to implement surgical curricula.

Call for Applications: SES Faculty

Deadline: May 4, 2020

APGO is seeking a leader in ob-gyn surgical education to fill a position on the SES Advisory Committee. The SES Advisory Committee provides Surgical Education Scholars program participants with a vigorous curriculum and serves as scholar advisors throughout the 18-month program cycle. The term of service for the position is two, 2-year renewable terms that begin July 2020.

Call for Submissions: APGO Grant Opportunities

Deadlines: June 8, 2020

APGO Grant for International Educators to Attend the 2021 Faculty Development Seminar
As part of APGO’s commitment to actively engage international ob-gyn educators, this grant program was developed to enable international women’s health educators to participate in the APGO Martin L. Stone, MD, Faculty Development Seminar (FDS). The 2021 FDS will be held January 9-12 at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa, Scottsdale, AZ.

APGO Medical Education Endowment Fund Grant Program
This grant program provides financial support to stimulate research and innovation in health care education. In 2020, a maximum of $30,000 has been allocated to fund up to two grants focusing on the topic of Diversity and Inclusion in Ob-Gyn Education. Projects demonstrating a direct, measurable, positive impact on medical student education will be the most competitive for the award.

The APGO Undergraduate Medical Education Committee (UMEC) is conducting its annual survey of ob-gyn clerkship directors. The results of this survey help to shape the curriculum for clerkship directors’ school, inform the development of APGO resources and gather information on important topics affecting clerkship directors and undergraduate medical education.
